and it is part of the Australian coat of arms. the emu stands an impressive
1.5 metres high and can weigh up to 55 kilograms. Being flightless,
emus have developed strong muscular legs that enable them to walk for
thousands of kilometres and run at speeds of up to 50 kilometres per
hour. The emu is farmed for its meat and feathers though the meat is
a little tough and best eaten thinly sliced. Early 2005 Dr Louis Lefebvre, of Montreal's McGill University, compiled the world's first bird IQ index from 2000 recorded observations.
